Hydrogen-Aeolic Energy with Optimised eLectrolysers Upstream of Substation

Second Haeolus Meeting

The Haeolus project has held its second project and board meeting at Tecnalia’s premises in Bilbao.

The project is generally progressing well and recovering from the initial delay due to the change in electrolyser provider. Tecnalia has been particularly active in their techno-economic studies of electrolyser operation. Varanger Kraft and Hydrogenics are working hard to recover lost time, and the experimental hall (which will be located in Berlevåg rather than directly on Raggovidda) is almost completely designed; to guarantee in-the-fence operation, a new power line will be built by Varanger Kraft to connect the Raggovidda wind park directly to the plant in Berlevåg.

The project has already received attention from local economic interest groups and is seen as an important opportunity to establish a hydrogen infrastructure in the Varanger area. SINTEF is closely investigating the best opportunities to make the most out of the produced hydrogen. Production is projected to start in late summer 2019.
